FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Town of Lockeport Announces Installation of Accessible Ramp at Crescent Beach Lockeport, NS — [October 15, 2025] — The Town of Lockeport is pleased to announce that approval has been granted by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources and Renewables to install an accessible beach ramp at Crescent Beach, near the Visitor Information Centre. This long-awaited project will significantly improve access to one of Lockeport’s most iconic landmarks, ensuring residents and visitors of all abilities can enjoy Crescent Beach. “This has been a request of residents for a long time, and we’re really proud to finally make it happen,” said Mayor Derek Amalfa. “Adding an accessible beach ramp will provide much-improved access to our beautiful Crescent Beach and bring incredible value to both residents and visitors.” Funding for this project is provided through the Sustainable Growth Services Fund, supporting local initiatives that enhance accessibility and community development across Nova Scotia. The Town of Lockeport would like to formally acknowledge the significant contributions and continuous support of Town Staff, the Eastern Shelburne Accessibility Committee and Lockeport's Heritage Tourism & Culture Committee. Their foresight and commitment have been instrumental in realizing this important project. The improved beach access will greatly benefit individuals with limited mobility as well as the broader community for many years to come. Construction on the accessible ramp will begin shortly. During this period, access to the beach at this specific location will be temporarily closed. The Town appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation as this important work is completed. “Accessibility and inclusivity are priorities for our community,” added Mayor Amalfa. “This project reflects our continued commitment to improving public spaces in ways that serve all who call Lockeport home — and all who come to visit.” Additional project details and progress updates will be shared through the Town’s official communication channels and website at www.lockeport.ns.ca.
